About Yashlats:

Otherwise known as the Mercaz HaRav high school or Yeshivat Yerushalayim L’Tzeirim, this high school for 300 students based in Jerusalem is affectionally known as Yashlats. The Yeshiva was established in 5724/1963 by Rabbi Yaakov Filber, one of the foremost students of Rav Tzvi Yehuda HaCohen Kook. Yashlats is considered as one of the leading Yeshiva High Schools in Israel, both in its religious & educational standards. Famous graduates include Rav Yaakov Shapira (current Head of Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva), Rav Motti Elon (former Head of Yeshivat HaKotel and leader of the Mibreshit movement) and Rav Shmuel Eliyahu (chief rabbi of Tzfat). The current Rosh Yeshivah is Rabbi Yerachmiel Weiss.

On the night of Rosh Chodesh Adar Bet, March 6 2008, a terrorist entered a library Yashlats shares with older students from the Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva and murdered eight students; five of whom were enrolled in Yashlats. Eleven more students were injured while dozens more were direct eyewitnesses to the attack and suffered severe emotional trauma.
